Business, Finance and International Development

We are delighted to announce the launch of a new series dedicated to interdisciplinary work on business, finance and international development. 

Drawing on cross-cutting conversations in the disciplines of anthropology, critical management studies, development studies, economics, geography and socio-legal studies, this series will be an arena for critical scholarly engagements with topics such as:

• the form that new public-private ‘state-market hybrids’ take in contemporary international development;
• the role that private sector entities play in producing and legitimating knowledge in/of development;
• the impact of emerging financial architectures and innovations on the Global South;
• labour and human rights issues in global supply chains;
• the place of business and finance in resource extraction and conservation;
• methodological and ethical issues in the study of these themes.

As private sector actors become increasingly central to the design and delivery of international development, this series provides the first specialized, interdisciplinary publishing outlet for critical work on business, finance and international development.

The series also makes an explicit commitment to addressing issues around race and colonial legacies in development studies, and to amplifying scholarly work from the Global South through both solicited submissions and authors’ citation practices.

We welcome submissions on topics including, but not limited to:

• Business, resources and environment
• Ethics, rights and supply chains
• Financialization and financial flows
• Labour, informality and precarity
• Methodologies and ethics
• Philanthrocapitalism and emerging donors
• Public-private entanglements and systems of provision
• Race, gender, coloniality and the private sector

We welcome proposals for single or co-authored monographs, edited collections or ‘Shorts’ (academic work of between 30-50,000 words).
