At a time of increased conflict and extreme weather events, this timely book examines the protracted and overlapping displacements of people that shape many of the world’s urban spaces. Presenting case studies from the Global North and South, researchers explore the experiences of communities in refugee camps and those that have either chosen or been driven to move across borders by conflict, economic or environmental forces.

Acknowledging the many difficulties that migrants face, the book also looks at the creative urban processes that emerge in the wake of violence and the resourceful way refugees build lives in and outside camps.

Giovanna Astolfo is Lecturer in Urban Design at The Bartlett Development Planning Unit, University College London.

Camillo Boano is Professor of Urban Design and Critical Theory at The Bartlett Development Planning Unit, University College London.
