Science, Technology and Society

Our books examine the cultural, political, and economic questions raised by developments in science and technology.

Established in 2019, Bristol’s youngest subject list publishes monographs, edited collections, and trade titles for the general reader. We are continuing to build our presence in this area and would be delighted to hear from prospective authors at all career stages. We are especially interested in work that addresses the global social challenges, but we also welcome more theoretical work.

Many of our books are acquired on a bespoke basis, but we also offer the following series:

  • Dis-positions: Troubling Methods and Theory in STS
  • Contemporary Issues in Science Communication
  • Research in Sociotechnical Cyber Security

Paul Stevens, Publisher

I joined Bristol in 2017, bringing with me over two decades of experience in academic book publishing. Science, technology and society is not only one of the fastest growing lists at Bristol, but a reflection of an ambition to establish the press as a destination for bold and imaginative work. While there is a natural lean towards science and technology studies, my acquisitions are driven more by topic than by approach.

Book publishing can seem opaque, so I have a particular interest in making it more transparent, especially for early career scholars. Whether you want to discuss a specific book project or just want to learn about Bristol’s publishing in general, then please get in touch.
